1.    Teaching Quality

The school focuses on the quality of teaching. Under coordination of the department head of each professional, undergraduate teaching is organized by the teaching and research section and group team of each grade, while postgraduate teaching is organized by the department and tutors of all grades. It regularly attends teaching seminars organized by the National Professional Steering Committee. Through the education system, the school makes strict control of the teaching process and task level, employs senior engineers in the design institute to participate in practice teaching for a long term and actively organizes students to participate in various extracurricular activities, thus effectively ensuring to maintain the long-term high-level teaching quality. Students get better training in research and technology application abilities and have higher learning satisfaction.

In the past five years, architecture professional has got the national characteristic specialty construction program and passed inspection smoothly; urban planning professional has got the municipal characteristic specialty construction program; architecture professional has got three provincial high-quality construction projects and the provincial school-enterprise collaborative innovation base jointly declared by the School of Architecture and the School of Civil Engineering has been approved. Teachers have got one award of national teaching achievement secondary prize (ranking fourth) and one award of provincial teaching achievement first prize (ranking fourth) and three awards of the university teaching achievement first prize.

2.    Academic

The school attaches great importance to scientific research work and develops a comprehensive research results evaluation and incentive system to encourage teachers to conduct various research and academic activities. Teachers in the school also actively participate in the research to promote development of the discipline by disciplinary crossing and integration and have made some progress in study of the relationship between urban and rural areas, the urban and rural landscape ecological planning and local history conservation and planning. In the past five years, the school teachers have presided over 4 National Natural Science Fund Projects, 1 National Social Science Fund Project and 4 thematic topics of "Eleventh Five-Year Planning" and "Twelfth Five-Year Planning" National Technology Support Programs, undertaken a total of 16 scientific research projects above municipal level, 8 education and research projects and published a series of more than ten valuable academic works and hundreds of scientific papers to promote scientific research disciplines to make significant progress.

3.    International

The school carries out extensive exchanges and cooperation. The school has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Hong Kong professional talents service units to hold regular exchanges. Since 1994, the planners and architects of Hong Kong Housing Department regularly come to give lectures every year, guide students in curriculum design and graduation design, hold architecture party and accept students majored in architecture and urban planning to go to Hong Kong for visit and learning. In recent years, it has conducted cooperated teaching and research with Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau, Guangzhou Municipal Cultural Bureau, Guangdong Provincial Urban and Rural Planning Design and Research Institute, Guangdong Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute and a number of other design firms and achieved good results; the school also makes exchanges with foreign architecture schools and institutes. Through the school’s "talent recruitment project", it has established academic exchange mechanism with Mackintosh School of Architecture of Glasgow School of Art and the School of Architecture of University of Auckland, New Zealand; the school also sends every year 1 to 2 students to the University of Kaohsiung in Taiwan and Tampere University of Technology in Finland for a period of four to eight months of exchange of learning; it also has established "2 + 2 + 1" double degree joint training mechanism with Curtin University in Australia; it also invites teachers and students from domestic and foreign schools of architecture, planners, engineers, experts and scholars to come for academic exchanges and hundreds of thematic reports have been made.

4.    Cooperation with enterprises

The school also focuses on cooperation with enterprises. Guangzhou Pubang Garden Co., Ltd. and American GLC Architectural Design Company have set up professional scholarship in our school to support students to complete their studies and jointly organized design competition with our school; students’ business base is established in Institute of Architectural Design at the University of Guangzhou.

5.      Employment

The perennial employment rate of the school remains above 99% and more than 98% of graduates are engaged in professional related urban management, design and real estate work. More than 50% of students work in major design institutes and more than 80% of students work in architecture. Students have a higher employment satisfaction.
